Jay Scharkey is an unwavering and zealous trial lawyer who represents publicly-traded and closely held companies, partnerships, and high net worth individuals in complex, high stakes matters. His experience in court is both extensive and wide ranging. Jay has advised clients in cases involving antitrust and trade regulation, environmental disputes, intellectual property and trade secret claims, tax controversies, and unfair competition and business torts litigation and handled proceedings in state and federal courtrooms across the United States. He has a significant number of international clients, particularly in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong.

Jay has also handled white collar criminal matters, representing and counseling clients who were subjects and targets of governmental investigations, from the preliminary investigative stage of a case to sentencing. Given the breadth of his experience in handling numerous controversies, Jay has also been called upon to provide risk assessment, management, and counseling in the diligence phases of significant corporate transactions.


During law school, Jay was awarded the prestigious Philip H. Corboy Fellowship in Trial Advocacy. As a Corboy Fellow, Jay was hand-picked by the law school faculty to receive concentrated, intensive instruction in trial advocacy by many of Chicago’s most accomplished trial lawyers and judges. The trial skills Jay developed and honed have contributed to his successful record in court.

Jay was previously a partner at Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP, where he spent the formative years of his career and built his reputation by handling novel and complex cases. He earned his law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and received his undergraduate degree in English and American Literature from Washington University in St. Louis, where he graduated with distinction.
